CAFCASS Durham, UK
Jan 20, 2020Full time
New and exciting opportunities to work for Cafcass as a result of funding for additional posts. As the largest employer of Social Workers in England Cafcass knows being a Social Worker is both a challenging and privileged role. We also recognise you want to work flexibly, proportionally and safely and be supported practically and professionally to achieve the best outcomes for children and families and a healthy work life balance for yourself. Cafcass leads the way in when it comes to professional development, flexible working, use of technology and health and wellbeing support. And these were just some of the factors that contributed to Ofsted giving us an 'outstanding' rating at our last inspection in 2018, just the 4th national organisation to receive this rating. Our Social Workers are called Family Court Advisers , although you may have also heard them referred to as Children's Guardians, and we are recruiting for our teams based covering the Durham and Tees areas, although we trust you to work flexibly whether this is in court, at home, in the office or of course, with children and families and provide the technology to enable this. If you join us in which ever team you will draw on your experience, knowledge and skills to understand what the child needs, wants and feels and effectively communicate this to the court, either in writing and/or in person. We have two posts within our long-teams based in Middlesbrough, one of which covers the Durham area and the other covering the Tees area. These cover both public and private law work. In Public Law you would be involved with cases where the local authority has serious concerns about the safety or welfare of a child and the court requests for Cafcass to become involved in the case. The Cafcass Social Worker, often referred to as Children's Guardian , is typically involved with the child across an extended period carrying out relevant assessments to understand their needs, wants and feelings, and effectively communicate this to the court through a combination of written reports and giving evidence. In Private Law you'll use your social work skills and experience to understand what the child needs, wants and feels and then advise the Family Courts on the best course of action for the child by providing confident, powerful and succinct written case analysis and make recommendations to the court as part of a section 7 report or as a Children's Guardian. You'll also attend court and be an advocate for the child for the best interests of the child, ensuring their voice is heard. You will advise the court on the best course of action for the child by providing confident, powerful and succinct written risk and child impact assessment and case analysis and make evidence informed recommendations to the court. We also have one post within our Early Intervention Team based in Middlesbrough. As part of our Early Intervention Team (EIT) you will be part of the wider team covering the Tees and Durham areas and you will work with families up to and including their initial appearance in Family Court. You will be drawing on your experience and analytical and risk assessment skills to achieve a safe and positive outcome for children. The EIT is the front door to our services ensuring Cafcass only intervenes in the lives of those children who needs a service. The service is fast paced, energetic, drawing on Child Protection expertise, analytical risk assessment, identifying key issues for the court and offering safe advice in the best interests of the child. As a Family Court Adviser within the EIT, you will predominantly achieve this by conducting effective telephone interviews with applicants and respondents and assessing information received from other agencies. You will then collate this to allow you to succinctly and expertly communicate advice in the court through clear, evidence-based reports and representations, which will also include attending initial Court Hearings to ensure that children remain central to all decision making. As you would expect there are a few key things we need you to be: Qualified Social Worker with 3+ years' experience (or will have by time join us); Social Work England registered; Experience in working with highly vulnerable children and families; Expert in safeguarding, child engagement, inter-agency working, case analysis, planning and recording. Our work is demanding so for you to succeed and truly make a difference you should be someone who: Is resilient and organised; Can work proportionately; Has strong, intuitive IT skills; Is an effective verbal and written communicator. We would also like to draw your attention that this role has been identified as suiting someone who has a full driving licence . This is because of the nature of the work undertaken, the geographical area involved, and that public transport is not considered a viable alternative. Should you join us, not only will you receive a competitive salary but a range of other benefits which we believe collectively makes for a market-leading offer. Further information is in the attached document as is the formal job description / person specification and other relevant information. To apply we have a simple application process and you can upload your current, up-to-date CV and provide a short supporting statement. We know how busy Social Workers are, so we'd like to give you some dates for your diary to help you understand the timescales we are working to: Closing Date: 27th January 2020 Telephone Interviews: 3rd - 5th February 2020 Online Assessments: w/c 10th February January 2020 Final Interview: 17th and 18th February 2020 In the meantime, if you would like to informally find out about the role before deciding to apply, you are welcome to contact the Recruiting Manager, Patrick Lynn.
