Genetic Counselor Reproductive Medicine Department Royal Oak Part-time, days Job Summary: Genetic Counselor provides genetic counseling services, evaluates patient and family health educational needs, initiates appropriate genetic risk assessment and testing for hereditary risk of perinatal genetics. Genetic Counselor assesses the needs of patients, significant others and family members. Obtains insurance preauthorization, drafts letters of medical necessity. Facilitates appropriate medical and psychosocial follow up for high-risk patients and their families. Acts as a patient or family advocate. Documents care/teaching consistent with documentation guidelines and regulatory standards. Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Attends and presents relevant reproductive genetics information at high-risk meetings and other healthcare meetings. Coordinates and prepares Multidisciplinary Conferences in collaboration with Nurse Navigator. Participates in any other clinical activity related to reproductive genetics for each specific subspecialty service related to the care management of each patient. Minimum Job Qualifications: Education: Masters degree in Genetic Counseling. Experience: None. Licensure: Board Certification or eligible in genetic counseling from the American Board of Medical Genetics and/or American Board of Genetic Counseling. Skills: Ability to relate well to patients and all levels of personnel with developed communication skills, both written and oral.
