Community Human Services is proud to announce the grand opening of a Street Outreach Program for homeless youth. The program will be headquartered in Salinas and serve the entire Salinas Valley. We are looking for qualified Street Outreach Counselors to help us build this program and provide much needed services to one of Monterey County's most underserved populations. The Counselor II will provide a variety of outreach services to homeless youth throughout the Salinas Valley, as part of a 4 person outreach team operating from vans in pairs of two. Duties include: · Establish and maintain relationships with homeless youth using a non-judgmental approach. · Establish and maintain contacts and coordinate with other agencies' outreach and homeless services staff and teams (police, hospitals, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, schools, city and county departments, etc.). · Develop and maintain up-to-date outreach schedules with defined canvassing areas in Moss Landing, Castroville, Prunedale, Salinas, Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City. · Distribute survival aid such as food, water, shoes, clothing, flashlights and hygiene and first aid products. · Conduct assessments of individuals for the Coordinated Assessment and Referral System (CARS) to enter them into housing data base. · Enter data into Homeless Management and Information System (HMIS). · Assist Counselor III with meeting contract and grant goals and objectives. · Assist Counselor III prepare statistical, service and other reports as required. · Assess the needs of individuals in order to link them to housing, employment and education, or provide information and referrals to other community resources, including mental health, substance abuse, medical and dental services. · Connect individuals with McKinney-Vento homeless liaisons in the schools. · Provide transportation for individuals as needed and appropriate. · Participate in homeless census and surveys. · Participate in Coalition of Homeless Services Providers activities. · Other duties as assigned. · Must be available for a regular work schedule of Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday. · Must be flexible for occasional evening hours. · Reports to Counselor III, Salinas Valley Street Outreach Program. Community Human Services is proud to announce the grand opening of a Street Outreach Program for homeless youth. The program will be headquartered in Salinas and serve the entire Salinas Valley. We are looking for qualified Street Outreach Counselors to help us build this program and provide much needed services to one of Monterey County's most underserved populations. The Counselor II will provide a variety of outreach services to homeless youth throughout the Salinas Valley, as part of a 4 person outreach team operating from vans in pairs of two.
