I am a female aged 22. Currently studying towards a Bachelors degree in Social Work, a program which i am finishing in November 2019. I have special interest in disability studies and clinical social work. I have co- authored one peer reviewed academic paper on the experience of disabled people on social work service provision. I am a natural leader. I served as a junior counselor for Harare from 2015 to 2016. I am also naturally a great student.
I want to pursue a career in this field and believe this opportunity would be a great way to continue this pursuit. I am capable of carrying out the duties and responsibilities entailed with this role. I also have experience in designing and conducting research myself. Data collection, data analysis and report writing are skills I am well equipped with. I am proficient with statistical analysis using SPSS and a confident IT user.
I am an empathetic and approachable individual who can bring a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I try to be as respectful as possible especially when dealing with sensitive situations. I often take care of my grandparents who have physical health difficulties. I believe having a lot of patience, staying positive and being understanding of others is key to being a carer. I have experience with completing risk assessments and considering different aspects in relation to the tasks needed. Putting patient care at the heart of what I do is second nature to me. I always try to do the best for my clients and have their needs at the forefront of my priorities.
I believe clear communication is an important part of any rapport; I achieve this by active listening when communicating with others and being as calm and clear as I can be. I am assertive and am comfortable communicating clearly face to face as well as through email. I also have experience handling sensitive information with discretion. I have excellent communication skills and have proven this when I stood as union representative for my entire department during the redundancy period at my last job. This extra role I took on was given to me as voted by my coworkers as I had shown to be a compassionate yet level-headed individual. I managed to take on the concerns of my coworkers and clearly bring their points forward on their behalf during meetings with the board. During this position I dealt professionally with confidential and sensitive information with discretion. This was a highly stressful and tense situation for the department which I often had to diffuse and be resilient when emotions ran high between coworkers. I believe I upheld integrity and acted as a leader with confidence whilst simultaneously working well within the team.
Working while studying my undergraduate degree enabled me to work on my time management and organisational skills; I believe I am capable of prioritising workloads and working to a high standard within deadlines. I have experience working both in a team and independently. I am a great team player and often offer my help to my team members as working together creates a better functioning team. Working independently I can stay motivated and use my own initiative. I have worked under supervision as well as being a leader and distributing the workload logistically whilst being available for my team if they need assistance.
My dissertation was a quantitative research piece wherein I liaised with different groups and was able to engage with non-academic audiences in a way they could understand the research. By managing this project, I was able to take my knowledge and interest in psychology and design a research project with real-life data which I was able to interpret the results and write a report presenting the data.
